Twice named a Gordon Foundation winner and awarded with the Henry Wood Scholarship in 2012, Ms Peleggi received in 2014 the Fred Southall Memorial Prize and the prestigious Ernest Read Conducting Prize. She is the recipient of the 2018/20 Sir Charles Mackerras at the English National Opera in London.
In just a couple of years, Ms Peleggi’s professional path took off significantly, nominated first Assistant Conductor of the OSESP Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra and then promoted to Resident Conductor of the Orchestra, Principal Conductor of the Symphonic Choir and a music Director of the Theatro São Pedro for Italian operas. All these achievements in such a short time made her winning the APCA Prize from the Paulistan Society of Critics of the Arts.
First Italian woman to enter the PG international program of orchestra conducting at the Royal Academy of Music of London, she graduated with distinction and was awarded the DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. She had the opportunity to assist the productions of Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Semyon Bychkov, Christian Thielemann and to further her studies with David Zinman at the Tonhalle, in Zurich. She holds a Master in Conducting from the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome with honours. She was twice offered the Diploma di Merito in 2011 and 2012 from the Accademia Chigiana and in 2013 she received the Diploma d’Onore as the Chigiana’s highest award.
Ms Peleggi has passionately dedicated to Italian operas from belcanto to Verdi working with Bruno Campanella and Gianluigi Gelmetti at Teatro Regio di Torino, Opera Bastille Paris, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro San Carlo. She worked with the Orchestra Nazionale della RAI for a live worldwide broadcast production of Rossini’s Cenerentola, and a DVD recording for RAI – RADA Film.
Ms Peleggi stepped on the podium of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, BBC Concert Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and performed with soloists like Boris Belkin, Yuri Bashmet, Baiba Skribe, Simone Lamsma, Alexander Melnikov. In 2016 she went on tour with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra at the London Proms, Edimburgh Festival and KKL Festival in Luzern. In 2018 makes her debut with the BBC Singers , Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), Göteborg Opera. This year she will return to the Baltimore Symphony for a Premiere of a new commission by Roxanna Panufnik, she will make her debut with the English National Opera, BBC Wales, Royal Philarmonic and will record a CD for Naxos.
Ms Peleggi holds beautiful, nurturing and very strong connections with the orchestras and the choirs she works with.For ten years, from 2005 to 2015 Valentina was the principal conductor and music director of the Coro Universitario di Firenze, receiving in 2011 a special award from the Government (Ministero dei Beni Culturali). Now she holds the position of Honorary Conductor as a recognition of her devotion and results under her tenure. She graduated cum laude in Comparative Literatures with a thesis about the relations between music and poetry in the 50s, which was awarded the prize for the Centenary of the Lyceum Club under the patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.
Ms Peleggi is the winner of the 2014 Conducting Prize at the Festival International de Inverno Campos do Jordão and the Bruno Walter Foundation Scholarship at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music – California. She is the recipient of the 2015-2017 Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship, and her mentor is Marin Alsop.
